Vinicius Junior has expressed his desire to renew his contract with Real Madrid “as soon as possible” despite ongoing rumors of a lucrative move to the Saudi Pro League. ESPN reported that while Saudi Arabia remains interested in the Brazilian forward, he is focused on staying with Madrid, with early discussions about a new deal already underway.
Ahead of Real Madrid Champions League round-of-16 first leg against Atletico Madrid, Vinicius emphasized his commitment to the club. “I’m very calm, I have a contract until 2027, and I hope to renew it soon,” he said during a pre-match press conference. He added that he feels happy at Real Madrid, surrounded by world-class players, under the guidance of coach Carlo Ancelotti and president Florentino Perez.
Vinicius has enjoyed great success at Madrid, winning two Champions League titles and being named FIFA’s Best Men’s Player last year. Although representatives from Saudi Arabia made contact with him last summer, Vinicius postponed any decisions about his future until 2025.
When asked if he could guarantee extending his contract, he responded, “I’m here to make history. I want to score more goals, play more games, and win more to cement my place in this club’s legacy.”
Vinicius also noted that referees in the Champions League provide more protection to players than those in Spain. He criticized the refereeing in La Liga, mentioning how referees in Europe better protect players like him, who entertain the crowd.
Regarding Real Madrid’s decision to boycott the 2024 Ballon d’Or ceremony, Vinicius confirmed that the club made the choice, and he complied by staying in Madrid after learning he would finish second in the voting behind Manchester City’s Rodri.
