AS Roma has just unexpectedly fired coach Daniele de Rossi after a series of disappointing matches at the beginning of this season.

Roma announced this morning: “AS Roma announces that it has relieved Daniele De Rossi of his duties as coach of the First Team.

“The Club’s decision is taken in the interest of the team, to be able to promptly resume the desired path, at a time when the season is still at its beginning.

“To Daniele, who will always be at home in the Giallorossi Club, a heartfelt thanks for the work carried out in these months with passion and dedication. Communications on the technical guidance of the team will follow.”

De Rossi made over 600 appearances and spent 18 years at the Serie A club as a player, where he was loved and adored by the Roma supporters.

The former midfielder was brought in on an interim basis to replace Jose Mourinho after he was also dismissed from the club in January.

However, despite only recently signing a new contract to stay with Roma until 2027, De Rossi has been relieved of his duties after a winless start to the league season.

Roma now find themselves just one point above the relegation zone in 16th place, having drawn three of their opening four league matches.
