The Liverpool head coach told reporters on Friday morning that he does not expect Chiesa to be involved at Old Trafford.
Earlier this week Liverpool unveiled their first, and so far only, signing of the summer transfer window. Italian international Federico Chiesa arrives from Juventus, further bolstering the attacking options at Arne Slot’s disposal.
Chiesa has had so little time to train with his new team-mates that he will not be included in the squad for Old Trafford this weekend
Speaking ahead of the trip to Old Trafford, coach Slot said: “He trained with the team today. There is a high chance he will not be available for Sunday.”
“But nothing is certain. If unfortunately one of the attackers gets injured in the next two days, we may need Chiesa. I have no plans to use him against Man Utd but I cannot guarantee this.”
Slot added that midfielder Curtis Jones is the only player currently ruled out due to injury for the Reds. He is yet to return to training as he continues his recovery from a groin injury.
Liverpool won their first two games and kept clean sheets against Ipswich and Brentford, while United lost at Brighton & Hove Albion last weekend.
